Call 1-800-829-1040 for questions regarding your personal federal income tax return, account balances, transcripts, and general filing inquiries. Hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time.

Refund status hotline

Call 1-800-829-1954 to check the status of your current tax refund. You can also use the official IRS "Where's My Refund?" online tool or the IRS2Go app for 24/7 tracking updates.

Business and specialty tax help

Call 1-800-829-4933 for inquiries related to small business returns, partnership or corporation filings, payroll taxes, and Employer Identification Numbers (EINs).

Identity verification and tax fraud

If you received an IRS letter (such as 5071C) requesting identity verification, call 1-800-830-5084. For suspected tax identity theft reporting, reach the Identity Protection Specialized Unit at 1-800-908-4490.

Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS)

If you have an ongoing tax issue creating financial difficulty that has not been resolved through regular IRS channels, call the independent Taxpayer Advocate Service at 1-877-777-4778 for dedicated assistance.
